Heidepriem v. GOP - they’re out of their corners

I won’t be redundant, but the fracas that’s erupted over Dem Scott Heidepriem’s entry into the 2010 gubernatorial race is getting good - and it’s only been a day.
First, the SD War College has the state GOP’s, um, missive titled The phoniest man in South Dakota to run for governor. You’d think there’d be nowhere but nicer to go from there, but the GOP has proven you wrong.
Says the not-a-bit-delicate PP:

I think my jaw is still a little slack after reading this. The SDGOP didn’t pull any punches. At all.
Second, Heidepriem responds on the Decorum Forum calling the SD GOP liars, liars, pants on fires. He doesn’t own a BMW, he says, so how can he be selling one as they claim he is? If his Sioux Falls home is a mansion, he’s still living in it, which they claim he’s not. And he’s still in good standing at his country club, which they also claim he’s not. (Yes, Heidepriem is the Democrat in the race.)
The GOP attack tells you more about them than me. In the first place, it is fiction …
It is desperate and sad, but also revealing about the state of the GOP.
Game on.

Oops. Dave Knutsen must be smarting from that punch. The GOP basically called Heidepriem … Dave Knutsen. GOP headquarters said Heidepriem’s a phony because he’s just like the GOP’s senate leader and gov candidate.
Now who do you s’pose put GOP headquarters up to kneecapping one of their own leaders and gov candidates? The most likely suspect would be another gov candidate with some clout … Dennis Doogaard.
Could this be another year like 2002 where those two attack each other unmercifully and stinky cheese man just watches and wins the primary?
And how does T. Denny Sanford figure into this? His pool boy (Doogaard) and his butler (Knutsen) are both running. Maybe stinky cheese man will just lob the Sanford bomb at both of ‘em and crack the backs of their campaigns. You may be able to smell scm coming, but he’s got a sneaky, dirty campaign assistant who would stop at nothing to win.
It is going to be one long damned campaign.
