WaPo: Just say no to Thune gun amendment
By Denise Ross
South Dakota’s own John Thune might be rising fast in the GOP ranks, but today he got the cold shoulder from the Washington Post. They don’t much like his proposed amendment that would require states to honor concealed carry gun permits from other states.
THE GUNS-everywhere-guns-for-all crowd in Congress is at it again. This time it’s Sen. John Thune’s turn.
…
This is a frightening prospect.
…
Conservatives usually argue against the federal government telling states what they can and can’t do. If approved, the Thune amendment would trample all over the rights of states and cities to enforce reasonable restrictions on gun ownership. There are already enough guns on America’s streets. A vote for Mr. Thune’s bill would make them that much more dangerous.
The Thune amendment has been widely covered in the Capitol Hill press, which is saying something given how much noise there is to cut through at the moment. If it passes, this would markedly change the way guns are regulated, no?

Funny the Senator doesn’t feel the same way about requiring states to recognize each others’ marriage licenses….
Sorry Cory but it’s a bad analogy. The reasoning is for those who do carry and travel across state lines, the current system essentially prohibits a person from bringing a gun along knowing they would be prosecuted by merely passing through the state with a concealed weapon. If I have a concealed permit in SD and if happen to travel through a non-reciprical/concealed state and am subsequently pulled over for a moving violation, I would also be subject to prosecution and confiscation.
I haven’t read the legislation but I would assume that if a person becomes a resident of a non-concealed state, there is time frame that the SD permit is no longer valid in that particular state.
Thune is in some other news as well. The C-Street Group has him as a member according to a Salon Online Magazine Story. Check my blog Dakota Today for a link to that story or find Salon.com and go from there.
The C-Street House group aims to help those in politics and in service to Jesus as number one even if that means covering up the sexual escapades and trysts of members.
This amendment is just making states follow the constitution and honor the licenses issued by other states as the Constitution mandates. IF they have to honor your drivers license that’s state issued, they should have to honor your carry license that’s state issued as well, and yes it is really that simple…..
Mike, so then states should honor marriage licenses that are state issued too, right?
