Thune petition has more than 10,500 supporters
Here’s the release, from Thune’s campaign operation rather than his official Senate office:
Sioux Falls — Senator John Thune has garnered 10,593 supporters as of this morning for an online petition supporting his Government Ownership Exit Plan bill that would require the federal government to get out of the business of owning private companies by July of 2010.
“This shows the kind of support this bill has,” said Senator Thune. “Recent polling has shown that as many as 80% of Americans believe the federal government should not be running GM, Chrysler, AIG and other private companies. This bill creates a clear exit strategy and prevents the government from interfering in the day-to-day management of these companies.”
Senator Thune’s bill has been endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Citizens Against Government Waste, the National Taxpayers Union, and Americans for Tax Reform.
In addition to setting a July of 2010 deadline for the government to divest itself of ownership in private companies, the bill stipulates that any revenue from the sale of those assets be dedicated to reducing our staggering and unprecedented national debt, which now stands at more than $11.4 trillion.
“I encourage all South Dakotans who haven’t yet signed our petition in support of this bill to please do so,” Senator Thune said. “This is an opportunity to make your voice heard on this issue. I plan to present this petition to my colleagues this week as we seek an up-or-down vote on this bill in the Senate.”

So… ya think this guy Thune is just collecting a donor list for his campaign… I havn’t had a chance to really check him out…have you?
-I don’t know if I’ve had a chance to “check Thune out,” but one might imagine that his campaign would add these names to a database or two. Heaven knows I get multiple e-mails daily from the White House, the DSCC, DNC, etc. because I tried to contact an ex-Daschle staffer who worked on Obama’s campaign. He never called, but the e-mails are still pouring in. Time for a new term - political spam? -Denise
