Could this happen here?
By Denise Ross
The North Carolina Republican Party is using the coming storm of the Obama & Hillary show to do a little negative branding of some Democratic gubernatorial candidates who have endorsed Obama.
The argument in the video below, to be aired on NC televisions, is that - in light of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright screaming God damn America! - these Dems lack judgment for endorsing Obama, who has refused to distance himself from his pastor.
With Wright taking to the airwaves this weekend and probably becoming more vocal, will the SD GOP call on Tim Johnson, Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, the 25 state lawmakers and the public utilities commissioner to step away from their candidate?
Or will John McCain’s strong disavowal of the ad be enough to keep SD from following NC?

People don’t even need to air ads anymore — just make something controversial or inflammatory, post on YouTube, and alert the media. Every single news show will immediately begin covering it, airing it every hour on the hour on the cable news networks and making it the centerpiece of the 6 o’clock news. Every blogger out there (including you, Denise) will feature it prominently. All this, entirely free of charge.
Why even bother actually buying air time to play the ad, in that case? South Dakotan Republicans can make use of this to get a pretty sweet deal.
Step 1: Make a nasty attack ad. Don’t air it just yet, but say you plan to.
Step 2: Let the news stations play it on a continuous loop for a week or so.
Step 3: When McCain does the honorable thing and calls for the ad not to be aired, oblige him. It’s already got more airplay than your group could ever afford anyway, and it’ll be aired even more once it’s been “pulled” because hey, that’s a whole new news story!
Right you are, Stagger Lee. This is a new part of the American campaign game. It’s not the first artificial manipulation of the process. It won’t be the last. -Denise
The noise we are hearing is the sound of the Republicans running away from the issues of the horrible state of the nation that they have gotten the country into. Karl Rove is still active. Maybe the Dems need to start airing clips of the Revs Hagee, Parsley, etc. Their negative anti-American tirads got them dinner at the White house.
